Renuva Hand Rejuvenation in Houston

Hands are the area where Renuva genuinely shines. As we lose subcutaneous fat in our hands over time, the tendons and veins become more visible, the skin looks crepey, and patients tell me their hands look ten years older than their face. Filler in the hands works but can look puffy if not done well. Renuva is different - it regenerates the actual fat layer that used to be there, so the result looks like your own tissue because it is.

Renuva hand rejuvenation is one of the most-requested treatments at MV, and the volume of out-of-the-Heights traffic for it is real. Patients drive in from across Houston specifically because their local injectors do not offer it.

What it treats

  • Visible tendons and veins on the back of the hand
  • Crepey, papery hand skin from volume loss
  • A hand appearance that looks older than the face
  • Recovery after weight loss has reduced hand fat

Products used in this treatment: Renuva (allograft adipose matrix, manufactured by MTF Biologics)

What Renuva does in the hands specifically

The product is an injectable scaffold derived from donor human fat tissue that has been processed to remove all cellular material. When I inject it into the dorsal hand, the scaffold provides a template that your own preadipocytes (precursor fat cells) migrate into and use to build new fat tissue. Over the next 3 to 6 months, your hand regenerates the volume layer it had previously lost.

The clinical end result is visibly fuller hands that look younger without looking puffy or artificial - because the new tissue is your own fat, not a filler product.

How Renuva hands compares to filler hands

HA filler in the hands (Radiesse is the FDA-approved option) gives immediate visible volume. It works. The trade-offs: it can look puffy in patients with very thin hand skin, it has to be repeated every year or two, and the product itself remains in the tissue until it metabolizes.

Renuva trades immediate result for a different kind of result: slower to develop, looks more natural, lasts longer because the tissue is yours. Many patients who have tried both prefer Renuva. Some patients do better with filler if they want a same-day visible change.

What the session is like

A Renuva hand session runs about 45 to 60 minutes. I typically use 2 to 3 cc per hand. Most of that time is talking through what to expect and setting up; the injection itself is maybe 10 minutes per hand using cannula and a fanning technique.

You will see immediate fullness from the saline and matrix - this is not the result. Some swelling and possible bruising for 3 to 7 days. I ask patients not to put heavy pressure on the hands for two weeks (deep tissue work, weight lifting with heavy bars across the dorsal hand) to let the matrix settle without mechanical disruption.

Timeline of hand results

  • Day of: Immediate fullness from saline. Some bruising and swelling.
  • Days 1-7: Swelling settles. Real result not yet visible.
  • Weeks 2-4: Little visible change. Cells are migrating.
  • Months 2-4: New fat tissue becomes visible. Tendons start receding.
  • Months 3-6: Full result.
  • Beyond: Because the new tissue is your own fat, longevity is excellent. Most patients do not need repeat treatment for years.

Who I steer elsewhere

  • Patients who want immediate hand-volume change before an event in the next 4 weeks. Renuva is the wrong product for that timeline.
  • Patients with active inflammatory skin conditions on the hands.
  • Patients with a history of granuloma or fat necrosis from prior injections.
  • Patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Common questions about renuva hand rejuvenation in houston

Is this fat transfer?
No. Fat transfer is surgical - it harvests fat from your own body and moves it. Renuva is an in-office injection of a processed scaffold derived from donor human adipose tissue with all cellular material removed. Over months your body uses the scaffold to build new fat tissue. The new fat in your hands is yours.
How long until I see results?
Real changes show up between months 2 and 4. Full result develops by month 6. The immediate fullness you see on injection day is mostly saline that absorbs in a day or two.
How long does Renuva for hands last?
The result is your own fat, so longevity is generally excellent. Many patients see their hands hold the result for years before considering any additional treatment.
Does it hurt?
The product contains lidocaine and I use topical numbing as well. Most patients describe it as pressure with mild discomfort, less than they expected.
How much does it cost?
Renuva is priced per vial. Most hand treatments use 2 to 3 cc per hand. I quote at consultation rather than publishing a flat number because the right amount depends on what we are restoring.
